Mountaineering and glacier hiking
Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views while learning the basics of glacier trekking.
Glacier hiking at 3,000 metres
Take advantage of the magical setting of Tignes to go hiking. But not just any hike: a glacier hike at an altitude of between 3,000 and 3,500 metres on the Grande Motte glacier, in the heart of the Vanoise National Park.
You’ll approach the glacier equipped with a harness, crampons and ice axe, and supervised by professionals who will teach you the basics of safe climbing techniques. It’s a great opportunity to learn all about the life of a glacier and how crevasses form. An exceptional experience that will last a lifetime.
Next stage: mountaineering
Put on your crampons and follow the guide to the summit of the Grande Motte glacier! It’s the perfect way to get your first taste of mountaineering, and the reward is an incredible panorama (particularly of neighbouring Grande Casse).
It’s also an opportunity to discover the other side of the Grande Motte, which you may be less familiar with, and which is all rock!
Getting started with professionals
These two activities are supervised by mountain guides (glacier access by funicular and cable car) and are on sale at the Tignes Guides Office. For more information, contact the Tignes Guides Office.
