Climbing

That’s the call of rock climbing. On a natural or artificial wall, combine strength and balance for a climb to the summit. Working as a pair, you’ll learn to trust and welcome each other’s confidence. What a pleasure it is to tame nature and take part in a companion’s climb!

Climbing is a mountain sport and a source of freedom, giving you access to otherwise inaccessible peaks. A good dose of sport and adrenalin to tame the rock and overcome your fears.

Climbing is still a high-risk sport. When you climb, you need to control your belay chain and trust your climbing partner. Here are a few tips for a successful climbing trip.

Practice

Far from being an activity like any other, climbing requires the full attention of you and your climbing companions. If in doubt, give up or hire a guide who can help you discover the joys of this activity in complete safety on the most beautiful rock faces in Tignes and the surrounding area.

Getting equipped

Climbing requires special equipment, which is more extensive outdoors:

• A climbing harness
• Climbing shoes
• A belay system
• A rope, adapted to your activity and the length of the wall
• A helmet
• Carabiners
• Quickdraws
• A lanyard

This list of equipment is not exhaustive and may vary depending on the type of climbing you do (crag or long route, for example). All equipment must be approved for climbing and in good condition.

The recommended spot

Located not far from the Tignes dam, the ‘Chevril’ spot is ideal for a first outing, but also for more experienced climbers. You’ll find a range of different zones and levels of difficulty.
