Grande Motte

Summer skiing

The resort of Tignes offers the exceptional opportunity to ski in summer. The Grande Motte glacier has slopes at an altitude of nearly 3000 metres.

Summer skiing on the Grande Motte glacier

From 20 June to 19 July 2026*

*subject to favourable conditions

The pistes of the glacier are accessible even during the months of June, July and August. What a pleasure to be able to ski all year round while enjoying the sunshine at this time of the year! The opportunity to have a drink on a panoramic terrace, wearing a pair of sunglasses.

In addition to skiing in the French Alps in summer, Tignes also offers you the possibility of pleasant glacier hikes at altitude, while benefiting from the ski lifts. You can try a glacier hike and try to climb the La Grande Motte glacier with a professional guide. You will be in the heart of the Vanoise National Park, in a lunar landscape, a perfect contrast to the richness of the incredible flora and fauna that can be discovered in the park.

Summer skiing at an altitude of over 3 000 metres

Contrary to what you might think, skiing in summer is perfectly possible! Some people even look forward to the summer months… so they can put on their spatulas! The regulars make a date with the opening of the Glacier de la Grande Motte in mid-June. To make the most of it, Tignaddicts get together before 8am to ski the whole morning before the lifts close in the early afternoon.

There are many advantages to skiing in summer. Summer means longer periods of sunshine. It’s an opportunity to enjoy the ski area in a different way, with lifts opening before 8am, unlike in winter when they open at around 9am. Summer also means warmer temperatures. Even in the mountains and at higher altitudes, where temperatures often remain below zero (which helps to maintain the quality of natural snow), it’s pleasant to enjoy the slopes without having to dress as you would in the middle of winter.

Finally, the positive side of a half-day’s skiing is that you can take time out in the afternoon to explore the area in a different way: hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, microlighting… or even a nice siesta on a mountain terrace!

Seeing the mountains from a new angle

If you come to Tignes this summer, you’ll be able to see the resort in a whole new light: longer days, more beautiful colours, a new-found flora and fauna… in short, a different Tignes awaits you. It’s up to you to explore it as you wish. After a morning’s skiing, set off on foot for a hike, or mountain bike on one of the many trails in the bike park, and so on. Make the most of full days to recharge your batteries and take a deep breath of fresh air. Don’t hesitate to try something new in the heart of the Vanoise National Park.
