Kayaking on Tignes lake
The turquoise waters of Lac de Tignes, at an altitude of 2100m, are perfect for water sports such as kayaking. With its relaxed atmosphere, natural spirit and paddles in hand, this activity is accessible to all.
Nature, freshness, paddles in hand
Tignes, famous for its winter sports, becomes a paradise for nature lovers in summer. Kayaking is particularly popular here, thanks in no small part to the superb high altitude lake surrounded by mountains, where the silence and beauty of the setting invite you to relax and get away from it all.
Lac de Tignes is an ideal place for paddling in complete tranquillity. The water is calm and clear, perfect for beginners or just for having fun. But we’d like to warn you that it’s impossible to swim there for one simple reason: the temperature doesn’t exceed 13 to 15°C in high summer. The water comes directly from the Grande Motte glacier.
The nautical base, the starting point of the adventure
It all starts at the watersports centre on the banks of the lake. Open all summer, the base offers simple kayaks, life jackets, paddles… and above all a welcoming and dynamic team to guide you.
Whether you’re a beginner or already at ease with the paddle, you’ll be well looked after. The instructors are there to give you the right advice and help you get the hang of it before you set off on your adventure on the lake.
A simple, fun and refreshing activity
Kayaking in Tignes is a sporting and contemplative break. Take the time to glide gently over the water, contemplate the scenery and chat with the other kayakers, canoeists and paddlers on the lake. You’ll simply let yourself be carried along and enjoy unique views of the mountains and, with a bit of luck, you’ll spot a few fish below the surface or a paraglider in the sky! For a laugh, get up close to the Acroland slides and watch people doing acrobatics.
You don’t need to be an athlete to go kayaking: the activity is accessible to everyone. Children love it, adults can relax and everyone leaves with a smile on their face.
A few tips
The water sports centre is open from late June to early September, depending on the weather. The activity is often included in the My Tignes card, which gives access to a wide range of activities and sports in the resort. Don’t forget to book during busy periods!
The best time?
In the morning, when the lake is still calm, or at the end of the day for an unforgettable sunset. But above all, on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the Soirées Barges. Get as close as you can to the floating stage, and move along the shore at the same time as the floating stage.
