Why choose Tignes as your first ski resort?

Group of skiers on the Tignes ski area

This is it, it’s your winter! This year you will no longer remain at the bottom of the ski slopes, you are going to fully experience your winter holidays in Tignes and discover the joys of riding.

An exceptional setting for getting started

From the Grande Motte glacier to Les Brévières

In the heart of the Tarentaise massif, surrounded by sumptuous peaks, the Tignes – Val d’Isère ski area offers a diverse playground that will accompany you all the way. With 300 km of slopes awaiting you, you’re sure to find something to suit your spatulas.

The Tignes ski area starts at Les Brévières at an altitude of 1,550 metres and rises to the Grande Motte glacier at almost 3,500 metres! An extraordinary setting with itineraries to suit all levels.

Unforgettable panoramas

Whether from the lifts or on the ski runs, you’ll be in for a real treat! Beginners? So what? You too can reach the summit! The Grande Motte glacier is waiting for you on our two blue runs: Génépy and Rabotch, whose views will quickly make you forget your first apprehensions. Once you’ve got the hang of it, take the chairlift up to the Aiguille Percée for a closer look, then hit the slopes on the Corniche piste to reach Tignes le Lac, or extend the pleasure to 1,800 or Les Brevières!

If you’re more of a lover of bucolic runs among the larch trees, explore the Boisses and Brévières sectors for a quiet discovery of skiing in an enchanted world where the sun’s rays play with the treetops. The Myrtille run from Les Boisses will delight you, or take the Les Boisses gondola to fly over the forest and enjoy a breathtaking view of Lac du Chevril.

A well-equipped ski area for beginners

Beginners’ areas

The beginners’ areas have been designed especially for beginners. These areas are free of charge, so it’s the ideal way to get started and make your first turns without any constraints and at a lower cost! Getting more and more comfortable with your skis? Then take to the ski-area in its entirety!

An instructor from ESF du Lac gives us his advice on how to get off to a gentle start: “It’s very important to start gradually. Start on the flat to familiarize yourself with the glide and the equipment, then gradually increase the slope. The beginners’ areas are perfect for this! If you’re taking your first steps on the slopes, you’ll need a week’s tuition before you’ll be able to ski independently and enjoy yourself with the rest of your group of friends or family.

Dedicated beginner zones allow you to ski in complete safety in areas reserved exclusively for beginners. For beginners, it’s important to choose slopes with a relatively gentle gradient and a flat area at the end to help you stop calmly. In all our villages, whether Val Claret, Le Lac, 1 800 or Les Brévières, you’ll find areas suited to your progress.

Beginner-friendly lifts

In our beginners’ areas, you’ll find lifts perfectly adapted to your level. These include conveyor belts that allow you to glide smoothly up the slope. Simply let yourself slide on the belt, which takes you gently to the top, where you can glide down again.

As for the more traditional lifts, such as drag lifts or chairlifts, you’ll find staff at every departure to help you calmly take your pole or seat. All you have to do is let yourself be carried all the way to the top of the slope, where you’ll begin to turn with ever-greater confidence.

Attentive, experienced professionals

Starting out on skis is not something you can improvise. If you set out on your own, you could end up misjudging a slope and embarking on a difficult itinerary. To make sure you have nothing but good memories of your first day on the slopes, and to give you the confidence to become a true skiing addict, there’s nothing better than calling in a professional!

Our instructors share their experience to convince you that it’s best to start out with an instructor: “If you try to learn on your own or with a friend, most of the time you’ll end up on slopes that are totally unsuited to your level. The only thing you’re likely to get out of it is a few scares that will lead you to think that skiing isn’t for you, which isn’t true!”

Undecided whether to opt for individual or group lessons? According to our instructors, here are just a few of the advantages: “If you want to progress according to your desires, you can choose between group classes, which are more economical and offer a friendly atmosphere. Or individual lessons, which are perfectly adapted to you and your physical and mental capacities”.

In Tignes you’ll find a team of professionals who’ll be there to support you every step of the way!

A caring community

At Tignes, we attach great importance to everyone having a place, whatever their level of ability. Here, you can try your hand at anything, fall down, laugh about it and get back up to try again.

It won’t take you long to fall under the spell of our resort and become a Tignaddict! Whether you come with family, friends, as a couple or even as a lone wolf, you’ll always find something to keep you busy and new areas to explore. A great day’s skiing or snowboarding, a relaxing dip in the lagoon before sunbathing on the terrace, a gym session or a trip around the lake – there’s no end to the ways you can enjoy the great outdoors and the mountains!

Don’t hesitate! And come and visit us to try out your first slopes. All the resort’s professionals are looking forward to seeing you.
